Piratey Swords Empty Piratey Swords

Well, since the topic of swords has come up and since it's one of my favorite topics, I thought I'd share a couple pics of the more "piratey" swords from my collection (excluding rapiers and smallsword styles):

Hilt close up - clockwise from top - Custom Darkwood Armory cutlass made for me by Scott Wilson, MRL cutlass, MRL hangar, MR Barbossa sword, Hanwei Mortuary hilt, MR Sparrow, Hanwei Rev War hangar:

And the full swords:

These are just a few of my collection, but the ones that I use for various pirate costumes.

Nice! I'm envious of the mortuary hilt, and of the Barbossa sword. Of all of those, the onle one I've got is the Museum Replicas bras-hilted hanger. It has served me fairly well, although I aged up the hilt with some Sophisticated Finishes, and had the "R" engraving ground off the base of the blade.

A post from many years ago over on KTTC. I'm still looking for and going to make a plastic version of Angelica Teaches double clam shell rapier. I think that is the actual style name for it!?

It is a clamshell hilt, but the blade is closer to what would be called a spadroon. Rapiers are much longer. A spadroon is basically close to a smallsword, however the blade is a little wider and heavier to allow for cutting. Angies sword is very close in design to the one from the Antonio Banderas Zorro films, and the sword he uses in those is basically a spadroon with a complex hilt.

I was going to try my hand at doing one myself for my previous lady friend as we were buidling her an Angelica costume (she's Ecuadorian) but we've since parted company. If you do end up doing a version of this I would be interested in seeing it.

Aye! I am in possession of the deluxe plastic toy verzion of Zorro's sword. It has been completely striped down and dismantled. Working on clay sculpts of the clams shells and trying to figure out how to cast this in resin. I may have to do it in two parts and join them together along a seam, sand, and paint.

I am trying to make a Con and Park friendly plastic version but would LOVE to find a real version.
