Ahoy! Noob from the Philippines

Post  Omel on Tue Jan 17, 2017 11:28 pm

Hello everyone! i'm Rommel from the Philippines, ( hope this is where introduction posts are supposed to be) i have been referencing jacksparrowcostuming last December because the office held a Pirate themed Christmas party. made a fairly decent Cap'n Sparrow on relatively zero expense ( oh.. i purchased cheap pleather for the tricorn and boots) since most items i have around the house/storage.

Do i need to create a separate build thread for pics and stuff?

Had fun building it, had a blast at the office ( won first prize for best male costume, harhar), and will most probably have more fun improving on it in time for POTC 2017.

cheers

Thanks!! technically the expense shelled out for this build was for the pleather and superglue i bought to make the boot covers, Tricorn and belt edge.

all other items were scrounged around the house ( of course they had their individual values as well, either as excess material/parts from previous builds or just old stuff lying around the storeroom.. Laughing )

3rd belt

Post  Omel on Sun Apr 02, 2017 8:15 pm

Ahoy everyone, here is my take on Jack's snakeskin belt, again this is a budget speed build.

printed out a nice snakeskin pattern and glue to appropriate length ( width is a bit under 4 inches)

covered in PVA glue and allowed to dry, then dotted each scale ( wellll... maybe not exactly each scale, but you get the idea, haha) with more PVA glue to create texture....its then glued to 2 mm. craft foam then sprayed with gloss acrylic paint (clear)..

printed out the buckle, attached to hard board ( three layers)  and applied epoxy clay for the details... was spayed with gold/bronze paint and weathered with black shoe polish...

here's the finished belt alongside the two initial belts to check for size/scale

thanks for looking mates!

Dang, great job!

Thats really cool how you did the budget way of making a snakeskin belt!

Where did you get the printout of the belt? Any chance of sharing it? Very Happy

Thanks Mate!

I just Googled images for "Snakeskin pattern", and chose one that looks nice, printed 4 images per sheet ( i think i printed 3 sheets total), cut the images and glued together ( making each image fit according to pattern) till appropriate length was achieved. the PVA texture really made the whole thing nice, even running your fingers across the belt feels real enough, ( cover/spread the entire belt with thin layer of PVA/Elmer's glue, allow to dry...criss cross with pva glue following scale pattern, allow to dry then finally dot scales (each one if you can) with more pva) hahaha, plus ..photos will give off a nice reflection of the texture instead of just a flat printed look.

here are some image links you might like:
