Forgotten Seas Flintlock has arrived!

Post  Indy Magnoli on Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:25 pm

Got my flintlock on Saturday (gotta love special Saturday-morning deliveries!). It's everything I expected... it's not cheap so I had fairly high expectations and it certainly ticked all the boxes! I'm very happy to retire my Denix "close enough" and finally have an accurate flintlock. So, here are some photos and specs, comparing Aaron's flintlock to the two popular Denix models, the 18th C German and 19th C Italian:

The German Flintlock is the longest at 42cm (16.5"), the accurate flintlock is 38.5cm (15") and the Italian is the smallest at 36.5cm (14 3/8").

The barrel has the widest opening of the three, it seems to be made from an aluminum pipe, perhaps, with the thinnest walls. The blackened tip is a nice touch.

The overall detailing is really nice, crisp and clear casting. The finish is authentic looking and only a really close inspection of the metal parts reveal the metal powder casting look. The flint seems like a real stone, which is certainly a step up from the cast metal or plastic "flint" usually present on the Denix models.

The weight is good, it's noticeably lighter than the larger German Denix, but a hair lighter than the smaller Italian, probably due to the resin components and thinner barrel.

The inaccuracies to the original prop are fairly minor and you'd never notice them without comparing this replica closely to photos of the original. So, all in all, this is an excellent piece and certainly the best option out there. This flintlock is the final piece to my outfit... the only item I wasn't completely happy with. Thanks Aaron... it was worth the wait!

Kind regards,

That's an outstanding outcome,I know how long you waited for this, and a great comparison with the other pistols
